Charity foundation gives EGP 75m for commodities for low-income families: Supply Ministry
Ministry supports charity organisations' efforts by delivering aid through largest sales network across the country, says Hanafy

The Ministry of Supply has agreed with a charity organisation to distribute 750,000 coupons, worth EGP 100 each, to low-income families.
The coupons, worth EGP 75m in total, and can be redeemed from subsidised groceries, consumer complexes or from the branches of wholesale companies affiliated to the ministry in Cairo and other governorates, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Khaled Hanafy announced Saturday.
He added that the ministry reinforces the charity organisations' efforts in supporting low-income families by contributing in delivering their aids to those most in need. This is through the largest sales network across the country, which includes 25,000 subsidised groceries, about 4,000 consumer complex branches, and two wholesale companies affiliated to the ministry.
The coupons are currently admitted through the documents of the distributing foundation, Supply Ministry Official for Social Community, Prices and Rational commodities Eman Moussa said. Moussa added that they must be accredited by the foundation and the citizen's governorate.
The ministry's role comprises of redeeming the coupon with food commodities worth EGP 100, as well as their subsidised commodities and bread points from groceries, Moussa added.
She further said that this procedure saves the transportation expenses for the donor institution and facilitates providing help for beneficiaries.
Furthermore, Hanafy said that a cooperation protocol will be renewed in few days between the Ministry of Supply and Misr El Kheir Foundation, headed by former Egyptian mufti Ali Gomaa.
The protocol includes providing the required commodities to Misr El Kheir Foundation from the holding companies for food industries and supply commodities, which the foundation distributes as Ramadan commodities for free to the deserving families, Hanafy said.
Moreover, the ministry is currently coordinating with Misr El Kheir Foundation to benefit from their database of low-income families, the minister said. Hanafy noted that the ministry is also studying distributing free commodities to ration card-holders in addition their rationed shares of subsidised commodities.
Meanwhile, Hanafy previously announced that the ministry will provide food commodities, such as rice, fish, meat, chicken at 50% of the subsided price, across the country during Ramadan.
