Egypt gives priority to Gulf security: Shoukry
Published in Daily News Egypt on 06 - 05 - 2015

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met Tuesday with a delegation from the American Chamber of Commerce, a part of the "door-knocking" mission scheduled to visit Washington.
The "door-knocking" mission to the US is a regular matter for economic cooperation, said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Badr Abdelaaty.
The delegation is to meet "a large number of officials in the US administration and the Congress, as well as the media", said a Foreign Ministry statement.
Shoukry reviewed with the delegation various aspects of the relationship with the US, emphasising constant contact with his US counterpart and other senior US officials. This would develop the relationship between the two countries, and promote cooperation in various fields.
In his speech, Shoukry praised the positive role played by the chamber, pointing out that Egyptian and US institutions are aware of the important role that could be played by non-governmental organisations. These include the chamber's roles, and included their support to the relations between the two countries, especially in trade and economics.
The delegation discussed Egypt's foreign policy in general with Shoukry, notably the Yemeni situation. Shoukry pointed to the priority Egypt gives to GCC security, and stressed his country's support for the efforts to reach a political solution in Yemen.
Shoukry also reviewed the Egyptian position on Libyan issues, as well as disarmament and non-proliferation. He also included the points of consensus and disagreement with the US on these issues in light of the delegation's visit to Washington.
Shoukry had visited the US on 28 April, advocatingEgypt's positionon theNuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
