Strict speech against Citroën Egypt agent
Published in Daily News Egypt on 09 - 02 - 2015

There has been a huge conflict within Citroën Egypt, owned by Egyptian businessman EzzElarab, after the mother company Citroën International has sent a strict speech demanding for improvement of the company's situation in Egypt, especially after sales went down considerably compared to Peugeot, its competitor, whose sales have been jumping for the last period. The speech included the importance of improving the company's situation in Egypt, developing the selling shops and opening new service centres in the country. In case Citroën Egypt did not apply this, the mother company might cancel the contract with the businessman.
Daily News Egypt obtained information on the two companies' sales in 2013 and 2014, so that the image becomes clear to the reader and to make it visible that Citroën Egypt's situation is getting worse.
In 2013, Citroën Egypt's sales were at 800 cars, and in 2014 the company sold 1,350 cars. Peugeot, on the other hand, sold 3,844 cars in 2013 and 6,800 cars in 2014.
These numbers indicate that there is a 50% difference in sales between the two companies, which led the mother company to demand for situation improvement. Peugeot's auto shows and service centres also exceedCitroën's, with 2service and maintenance centres and 3 auto shows.
It is well known that CitroënEgypt is owned by the Egyptian businessman HeshamEzzElarab since 2001. For all this time, however, the company did not work on improving its sales so that in the 14 years it had only 3 auto shows and one service centre in Abu Rawash.
On the other hand, Peugeot faced several crises in Egypt, the most severe of which is when its former agent, CDC WagihAbaza, sold it to Cairo for Industrial Development, which in turn made radical changes in Peugeot and opened new service centres as well as auto shows, helping the agency to develop in less than 5 years of ownership.
