2 die in new Aswan collision
Published in Daily News Egypt on 14 - 10 - 2014

A deadly crash in Aswan involving a car and motorcycle left two people dead and five injured on Tuesday reported state-run news agency MENA.
The agency reported that the car collided with the motorcycle, resulting in the deaths of the two passengers who were riding the motorcycle. The deceased were both males aged 20 and 29.
The accident comes one day after a collision involving three micro-buses in Aswan left at least 26 people dead. The deadly crash occurred in the early hours of Monday.
Prosecution said investigations have shown the earlier accident occurred due to speeding and the attempt of one micro-bus to overtake the other, concluding in the three micro-buses colliding.
President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi told the government Monday to take the necessary measures to limit the number of road accidents for the sake of citizens' safety, according to state-run Al-Ahram.
Road safety is a major concern in Egypt, with approximately 15,578 car accidents occurring in 2013. A death rate of 18.4 people killed occurred every day, according to a government report, which also indicated that daily deaths and incidents have risen in 2013 compared to 2012.
In August, over 33 people were killed when two tourist buses collided in Sinai. Another accident in August left over 17 killed after two microbuses fell into a canal in Luxor.
A 2012 World Health Organization report noted that Egypt's roads are the source of 42 traffic deaths per 100,000 people annually. The report added that Egypt has the third most dangerous road system in the world.
