3 dead, 23 wounded during Friday protests
Published in Daily News Egypt on 24 - 05 - 2014

Clashes between security forces and protesters left 3 dead and 23 wounded in Fayoum and Cairo Friday, according to the Ministry of Health.
Two of the fatalities took place in Fayoum, while the third death occurred in Cairo's Matareya. According to the Ministry of Health, the wounded in Fayoum were transported to Fayoum General Hospital, and those in Cairo were taken to various hospitals in Matareiya, Nasr City and Heliopolis.
Matariya, a bastion of pro-Morsi resistance, witnessed some of the most brutal violence during the third anniversary of the 25 January Revolution. Independent Wiki Thawra compiled a list of 103 protesters killed that day, 30 of which took place in Matariya. All but a handful of the deaths were caused by gunshot wounds.
Friday protests have become common occurrences as pro-Morsi protesters gather after prayers in support of the ousted Islamist leader.
The Anti-Coup Alliance, the largest pro-Morsi opposition bloc, frequently organises marches that gather from various mosques around the country to call for the reinstatement of ousted Morsi and his Freedom and Justice party government.
An improvised explosive device detonated Friday near Al-Salam mosque in Nasr City, state-run Al-Ahram reported. No injuries were reported as security forces cordoned off the area and deployed explosive experts to the sight.
