The Ministry of Interior recently launched, in cooperation with Fawri for Bank Technology and Electronic Payments, an electronic payment service for issuing car licences. Assistant to the Minister of Interior and Head of the General Administration for Traffic Medhat Koraytam said the service would start in El-Nozha Traffic Unit and then be applied nationwide in 2014. He added that this service enables individuals to receive their car licences directly from the unit without additional procedures, except for a technical check. This is part of the policy aiming to develop the car licence system using the latest technologies. "The electronic payment service will be available in 4,000 ATMs in banks, 1,300 postal offices and Fawri's approved offices nationwide," Koraytam said. The Head of Cairo's Administration for Traffic Hassan El-Bardissi revealed that the traffic unit would prepare the licences after ensuring customers have paid taxes, fees and obligatory insurance by searching the system's database. This would allow individuals to receive their licences in less than 15 minutes after their arrival at the traffic unit. Furthermore, there are plans for home delivery of licences down the line. "Launching this service is part of providing electronic payment services to citizens. This coincides with the current government's intentions to modernise the state's institutions and public companies," said Executive Head of Fawri for Bank Technology and Electronic Payments Ashraf Sabri.
