Friday violence leaves five dead

Violence in the first Friday of the year has left five dead thus far as clashes erupt in several governorates across Egypt.
A woman and a man were shot dead in Alexandria as security forces and pro-Morsi protesters clashed in the Sidi Bishr district, Aswat Masriya reported.
Police forces also dispersed another pro-Morsi protest in the Al-Bitash district in western Alexandria, using teargas to quell protesters.
Nasser Al-Abd, head of Alexandria's detective department, said that 30 Muslim Brotherhood members were arrested in the coastal city.
A man was also shot dead in Al-Fayoum, southwest of Cairo, when pro-Morsi protesters were met with police forces.
An eye-witness told Aswat Masriya that police forces used teargas and birdshots, while pro-Morsi protesters used fireworks and rocks.
In Ismailia, a man was shot in the chest and killed during clashes between police forces and pro-Morsi protesters, which left two injured in the area.
State-owned Al-Ahram said that police forces arrested a Brotherhood member who was carrying 14 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during his participation in a pro-Morsi protest.
A 17-year-old Azhar University student was killed during student protests right outside the university's campus in Nasr City, Cairo.
Ministry of Interior spokesman Hany Abdel Latif said that 122 Muslim Brotherhood members have been arrested thus far during their participation in Friday's protests.
Abdel Latif added that several policemen were injured during Friday's protests: "We are noticing increasing violence on the [pro-Morsi protesters'] side; they are using machine guns and shooting at policemen and random citizens."
The Anti-Coup Alliance called for a million-man protest on Friday under the banner of "The People [Fire Up] their Revolution", in a statement issued on Thursday.
Last Friday's clashes have left five dead, 56 injured and 265 arrested across a number of governorates.
