Fatality in Tahrir clashes
Published in Daily News Egypt on 28 - 01 - 2013

The vicinity of Tahrir Square saw its first fatality since clashes erupted last Thursday, on the eve of the second anniversary of the revolution. Samir Ashraf Samir, from Shubra Al-Kheima, died on Abdel Moneim Riad Street early on Sunday morning. The 19 year-old, who worked at Nile City Towers, was wounded by a cartridge in his neck. Samir was reportedly leaving work when he was shot. The family of the victim says that he was not involved in clashes or demonstrations, reported state-owned Al-Ahram.
Clashes between young men and police continued on the corniche bordering Garden City and Downtown. Hundreds of demonstrators continued calling for the “downfall of the Brotherhood” in Tahrir and on Qasr Al-Nil Bridge, where bystanders watched Central Security Forces (CSF) fire tear gas.
Many demonstrators on the bridge offered prayers for those who died two years ago during the revolution's Friday of Rage and others who died during violence in Port Said and Suez. Following prayers they marched to Tahrir Square, where they continued chanting against the Muslim Brotherhood.
Alia Abdel Moneim came to demonstrate with her husband and two daughters: “Don't tell me about the National Salvation Front. We have nothing to do with them. He should come to the street and see what we are saying and what we want. No parties sent these people. They came here on their own. We came here specifically to remember the martyrs who died two years ago.”
The Arab Network for Human Rights Information (ANHRI) recorded 56 arrests in Cairo on Sunday during the tumultuous weekend that saw mass protests in Tahrir Square and confrontations with security forces on the corniche, Qasr Al-Ainy Street, and Youssef El Guindy Street.
