President Mohamed Morsy met Saturday with the National Defence Council to discuss the country's security situation after violence spread in several governorates. The meeting was intended by the national security chief, military commanders, and ministers of justice, media, interior and defence. The meeting began Saturday morning and lasted until time of print. As Egyptians commemorated the second anniversary of the 25 January Revolution on Friday, clashes erupted in Suez, Ismailia, Alexandria and Behira. Hundreds of thousands of protesters poured into city squares and chanted against Morsy and the Muslim Brotherhood. Throughout the day, protesters clashed with security forces, resulting in at least nine deaths in Suez, one in Ismailiya and hundreds more injured in other cities around Egypt. On Saturday, clashes continued in front of Port Said Prison leaving at least 22 killed and 275 wounded. The clashes occurred following the announcement of death sentences for 21 defendants accused of murdering more than 72 people during the Port Said football match last year.
