Ultras Ahlawy and Ultras Devils football fans are calling for marches and sit-ins ahead of the final hearing of the Port Said trial on 26 January.
The Ultras groups plan to hold several marches on 18 January that will converge in Tahrir Square, days ahead of the trial of those accused of involvement in the murders of over 70 football fans in Port Said, last February.
“The gathering for 26 January will not be for a day or two, it will continue from the next few days to the day of the trial," Ultras Ahlawy said.
“And the best place to remind people of the cause is... Tahrir Square," the group added.
The Ultras groups said the protest would not be limited to members and that families of the slain fans will take part in the marches.
Ultras Devils is organising a trip from Alexandria to bring protesters to the square.
The two groups have been reminding people of the deadly events that took place after a football match between Al-Ahly and Al-Masry football teams on 1 February 2012. They have been distributing leaflets calling on people to show up at the trial.
Following the incident, the football league was suspended. Attempts to restore the league were met with opposition by Ultras Ahlawy who demanded justice before the league is resumed. Resuming the league was repeatedly postponed, at times supposedly indefinitely. It is set to resume at the beginning of February.
