New in the movies this weekend

Resident Evil: Retribution
It would not be our movie preview if we did not get to talk about a sequel. This week's star is the fifth installment of the Resident Evil series, where viruses turn people into flesh-eating mutants, or something of that ilk. Loosely based on a videogame of yore, a black spandex clad feisty maiden goes on a rampage against mutants and pubescent boys the world over rejoice. Only the die-hard fans among you will find a reason to go see this endless repetition of more of the same, and we fear that as long as you do the sequels will continue.

A Gang Story (Les Lyonnais)
The film tells the story of an aging gang boss. That is about it if we are to believe the critics. Heavy with flashbacks, the story is apparently peppered with murder after murder and the besides the main man, not many other characters take shape. As Henry Barnes said in the Guardian “There's one code at play here: a hood's gotta do what a hood's gotta do. Unfortunately, we gotta watch him do all of it.”

Fetih 1453
A sweeping epic that has swept its native Turkey to the movies en masse, Fetih 1453 tells the story of the great capture of Constantinople by Mehmet the second. Filled with turbans and testosterone, the story plays a bit fast and loose with the truth but does not fail to entertain. If critics are to be believed, the entertainment will come as much from the sword-swept battle scenes as the at times clunky acting.
