Zaher underlines 'difficult choice' of Shehata's successor
Published in Daily News Egypt on 07 - 06 - 2011

CAIRO: Egyptian FA chairman Samir Zaher admitted that the association is facing difficulties naming a successor for departing manager Hassan Shehata.

Shehata ended a seven-year reign as Egypt manager after failing to take the team for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, following a 0-0 qualifying draw with South Africa.
Despite revealing that the decision was not a surprise to the FA, Zaher conceded that candidates for the job have yet to be named.
"There is no agreement inside the board in the meantime as any choice will not be easily welcomed by the fans," the FA chief told FilGoal.com.
"The successor of Shehata is likely to be Egyptian, but the choice is difficult because of the limited time we have.
"Shehata's departure was inevitable, but we opted to wait and meet with him out of respect to his value.
"We wanted to put an end to his reign in a respectful and civilized manner."
Egypt's next game will be against Sierra Leone in September.
