Cairo Governor acquitted of noncompliance charges

CAIRO: The Abdin Misdemeanor Court on Monday acquitted Cairo Governor Abdel-Azim Wazir of the charges of refusing to carry out an Administrative Court verdict.
Lawyer Mohamed El-Dardiri had earlier filed a lawsuit against Wazir before the Administrative Court calling for canceling the results of the local council elections of El-Zawya El-Hamra constituency due to irregularities.
The Administrative Court granted El-Dardiri a verdict, ordering that the elections be called off in the constituency.
Yet Wazir did not enforce the court order on time, which led El-Dardiri to file a lawsuit against him.
Wazir later executed the court order and was hence acquitted by the Abdin Misdemeanor Court of the above charges.
The Cairo municipality declined to comment on the issue.
Earlier last week, the same court sentenced Wazir to one year in prison, dismissing him from his current post and ordering him to pay LE 5,000 in compensation for not abiding by another Administrative Court verdict that ordered him to announce the results of the local council elections of Dar El-Salam and El-Basatin constituencies.
Wazir appealed this verdict, and the first court session is due to be held on Nov. 30.
