Ismaili crash out, Ahli get primed
Published in Daily News Egypt on 27 - 11 - 2006

Ismaili crashed out of the Arab Champions League (ACL) after losing 5-3 on penalties against Ahli Bordj on Sunday while the Al-Ahli club finalized their squad for the Japan 2006 Fifa Club World Cup (CWC).
The second leg of Ismaili's game in Cairo ended in a goalless draw, a result similar to the first match in Algeria last week.
Ismaili captain Mohamed Soliman Hommos hit the post as the hosts scored from all their attempts to advance to the last eight.
Hosni Abd-Rabou, Abdullah Al-Saied and Youssef Gamal found the net for Ismaili.
Zoheir Khedhara Abdelhak Mansour, Bachir Boudjelid, Laid Belhamel, substitute goalkeeper Nadjib Toubal and Khedhara netted for the visitors.
Meanwhile, Ahli coach Manuel Jose has named a 24-man squad for the that will take place in Japan next month.
Jose preferred to add an extra player to the demanded 23-man squad to avoid any injury problems, the club s official website reported on Saturday.
Striker Osama Hosni was included after recovering from an injury which put him on the sidelines for more than six weeks.
The Egyptian and African champions will open their CWC campaign against New Zealand s Auckland City on Dec. 11.
Meanwhile, Ahli s winger Gilberto will return to Cairo on Monday after undergoing a surgery in his Achilles tendon in Portugal.
Assistant coach Hossam Al-Badri said that the Angolan will be out of action for up to four months.
Mohamed Barakat needs four weeks of rehabilitation after medical examinations indicated that he does not need surgery on his injured knee.
And in preparation for the anticipated game with Suez Cement game in the Egyptian League on Monday, the Ahli trio of Emad Al-Nahhas, Ahmed Sayed and Osama Hosni were named after recovering from injuries, the club said.
International defenders Al-Nahhas and Sayed were sidelined for almost three months but will now be available for Ahli s league campaign and Fifa Club World Cup in December.
Coach Manuel Jose is set to field one of the pair against Suez to cover the absence of center-back Mohamed Sedik, who serves an automatic one-match suspension after collecting two yellow cards.
Striker Hosni will also link up with strikers Emad Meteb and Flavio Amado after recovering from a string of different injuries.
Ahli, with three matches still in hand, are in second spot in the league on 23 points, four behind leaders Ismaili.
Meanwhile, Palestinian player Raad Qumsieh, who plays for American Goshen College, took part in Ahli s training sessions for the second successive day.
The 20-year-old right-winger is on trial with the African champions but he failed to impress so far.
