CAIRO: Two days after the rockslide in the shantytown of Duweiqa, numerous charity organizations are supplying the survivors and their relatives with food, water, juice, blankets and more. Food and water top the list of demanded items in the area. "Usually our activities are focused on Giza and El Fayoum, but after the Duweiqa crisis, we went there on the same day with 700 meals and 100 juice boxes as a start, Hatem Farag, deputy manager of Noor Ala Noor organization (Tel: 0128602602), told Daily News Egypt. Farag added that they are now cooperating with two organizations - Sema and El Bedaya - to organize the distribution of the donations. "We managed to make a daily Iftar for the people affected by the crisis, their relatives, who came to make sure they are ok and are now sitting on the side walks in the streets, their neighbors, and the rescue officers. Farag added that they also managed to get 150 meals for sohour with the help of the Food Bank and 2,000 bottles of water. Farag continued that they currently need milk for the infants whose mothers are not able to breast feed them, due to the state of shock and fear they are experiencing. "We only need 100 bottles of milk; it's not much. As for Sema organization (Tel: 0101113461), deputy manager Khaled Abdel Moneam told Daily News Egypt, "we started our work in El Duweiqa three years ago, but after the crisis we increased our activities. We collected donations and we were able to get food, water and juice for the citizens in Duweiqa. Abdel Moneam added that what the people need the most is water and juice because of the heat. "Aqua Siwa brought a car loaded with water and Juhaina also brought two cars loaded with juice there. "Clothes will also be distributed today as the people lost all of their belongings. We received a lot of donations but our activities don't include providing houses for the now homeless people, due to the lack of resources, Abdel Moneam said. "Anyone who wants to go there, we'll be happy to escort them, he added. As for El Bedaya organization which is based in El Duweiqa, Ashraf El Noby told Daily News Egypt that their activities are also focused on food and water. "The electricity was cut off after the crisis so we need huge amounts of water to compensate the people's needs. Because of the heat, juice is also needed. El Noby added that they need volunteers to help them with transporting the donations from the cars to the public. "We only have 40 volunteers from the area itself but we need more. Other organizations are taking their contributions a step further. "We are going to supply the apartments that will be given by the government to the people with furniture, electric devices, blankets, food products. So far, we have allocated LE 100,000 for the affected families, Mustafa Zamzam, the manager of the media office in "Dar El Orman, told Daily News Egypt. Zamzam added that they are going to visit the injured people in the hospital to collect information about their needs. "Yesterday, we received 5,000 hot meals and also two apartments. "We are launching a huge campaign on TV and newspapers and we sent 2 million messages asking for donations on our hotline 19455. And we are also asking for support from businessmen as we are trying to build homes and to secure people's futures, both socially and psychologically, Zamzam added.
