April 6 movement criticizes NDP in corresponding conference
Published in Daily News Egypt on 04 - 11 - 2008

CAIRO: The April 6 movement concluded that the ruling National Democratic Party creates a "burden on Egypt in a statement the group issued as it wrapped up an online convention corresponding with the NDP's fifth annual conference.
"After we finished all our discussions and meetings with other political parties and movements, we concluded that the NDP is a big burden on our country and is one of the major factors holding it back in the different sectors, the movement said in a statement published on their official website anti-ndp.com.
The movement also accused the NDP of monopolizing politics and "limiting any other political parties from expressing their points of view and develop.
The movement condemned the NDP's economic plan that led "the country to experience severe economic problems and increased both the country's internal and external debts.
The convention, titled "The Conference of the Hidden Minority, discussed the NDP's "shallow interest in education, which it says is the reason behind Egypt's absence from the international list of the top 500 universities.
"Cairo University ranks 28 [in Africa] behind universities in Zimbabwe and South Africa, after it was the leading country in education in Africa.
The movement also claimed that the health system as well as the housing sector deteriorated under the NDP's rule
They concluded that the future looks bleak for the NDP because "it is not an actual true party in the first place, but rather a cabal of businessmen and people with common interests, the statement read.
Meanwhile, the Bloggers Against NDP movement stated in an official statement that it condemns the "fake propaganda by the press in favor of the NDP conference in a country where its people hate this party.
The movement has also circulated one million messages to all newspapers asking them to stop publishing news about the party's conference in a way that would make the party stand out.
"We challenge the party to come up with one single accomplishment that it has achieved, read the statement issued by the Bloggers' movement.
The movement also called on internet and Facebook activists to launch a campaign against the NDP conference and ask it to "leave the ruling seat that it seized a quarter of a century ago.
