American Embassy in Cairo: no difficulty in traveling to US
Published in Bikya Masr on 02 - 03 - 2010

CAIRO: The American cultural attaché of the US Embassy in Egypt, Andrew Michell, said that there were no difficulties in obtaining visas to the United States due to the fact that facilitating traveling between the two countries is the best way to increase mutual understanding. He was referring to the increased demands and visas requests to travel to the US this year by nearly 10 percent.
Mitchell pointed out that there is a larger number of Egyptian students who went to America last year, about more than 1,900 Egyptian who were enrolled in American universities and “there is an increase in the travel rate for the year compared to the previous year by 5.4 percent and that the number of travelers to the US is increasing year after year.”
This came in an online chat organized by the American Embassy in Cairo between the cultural counselor and the public and the media, where he reviewed many of the cultural programs to be conducted by the embassy in March.
Mitchell pointed to the importance of the role of the cultural relations in the partnership between Egypt and the United States, saying there is an exchange in all fields between Egypt and the United States, “not only in the field of antiquities and artifacts” over the past few years. He said 16 Egyptians were sent to exchange experiences and retention of cultural heritage and added that “we are trying our best to help Egyptians to acquire the tools needed to protect their country and preserve the country's wealth and cultural heritage.”
Mitchell said there are a lot of prominent students in the world who hope to go to the United States to complete their studies and this makes the competition very strong. “In spite of this, there are many opportunities to attend American universities by visiting the website of education in the United States, where there is a lot of information about the several educational programs,” he added.
Mitchell explained that any dialogue between the two countries begins between two people through participation in programs such as video conferencing or programs for speakers offered by the embassy, although there is information about these programs on the U.S. embassy website or Facebook.
Mitchell spoke about upcoming programs, stressing that the group “Royal Crown Review” jazz and swing music band will come to Egypt and that there is going to be a live concert at the embassy.
