Kill her … you are free … the honor killing law protects you!
Published in Bikya Masr on 16 - 02 - 2010

From the blog Cat of the Desert
I read the news every day; and every day I hear of a new honor killing, someone who killed his daughter just because he had doubts regarding her behavior; and if the day passes without an honor crime, you found a daughter who is pregnant or has given birth to her son and brother at the same time, or someone who lives with his niece as if she is his wife for more than seven years and now she is 14-years-old, meaning that her uncle has been abusing her for 7 years on a regular basis until she gave birth to a baby? Where is her family? Leaving her uncle treating her like that for 7 years?
Where was her family when she was in pain? Haven’t her family members noticed that she is pregnant or have they just discovered that when they took her to the hospital when she was giving birth?
What about the man who killed his divorcee, under the pretext of having doubts towards her suspicious behavior? Is it his business? Didn’t he divorce her? Why would he kill her?
What about the woman who hired some bullies to rape her niece in the streets, just because she turned her son down and refused to marry her cousin? What about the man who threw his wife out of the balcony and the one who killed his wife by mistake as he was joking with her using his pistol? And the one who makes money by trafficking in his daughters (12-years-old) by marrying them off for three days in what we can describe as a seasonal marriage or sex holiday. Or the name that can be defined by any Sheikh of the religious satellite channels, as religion became something they can play with and they can use religion to call “prostitution” some other fake names encapsulated by some religious slogans (then no argument in religion), as you would be an apostate if you refute their fatwas. They are scholars and we are nothing! Good morals or upbringing or ethics don’t matter. The most important thing is that girls wear the veil or niqab (full-veil) and obeys her husband … or trafficking by her body for whomever pays more, and after each psycho or mentally ill person who sexually abuses his daughter then finds out that she is pregnant, he kills her! And then goes to the police station to report that he killed his daughter arguing that he doubted his daughter`s behavior and morals!
This is a society that made the male virility based on “the thighs of women;” a society that condones theft, fraud, bribery and corruption, and thanks to the law, which protects the criminals and murderers under the name of honor killing. After our concentration on the superficial religiosity and distancing ourselves from proper education and easing the punishments for the perpetrators of such so-called honor killings, it is clear that such incidents are usual and daily and no consolation for a woman who consented the humiliation, fearing the scandal or shame that results in the end and the fate of being killed, as her brother, father, or husband or whoever killed her “doubted her behavior!”
