LAGOS: Despite an ongoing French military intervention in Mali, a recently formed Wimax operator in Mali has launched its services in Bamako aimed at boosting Internet and telecom services in the struggling country. Dogon Telecom announced it has launched its new service in Bamako. The service officially began on January 19 after a launch ceremony with the ministry of industry and commerce Chief of Staff Tiegoum Boubeye Maiga was present. The new services are aimed at developing and boosting infrastructure in the war-torn country, hit hard by Islamist related violence in recent months and now a French military action in the country aimed at driving the militants from the country. Dogon Telecom is the initiative of Abdoulaye Guindo, a Malian national living in Japan. The service currently covers nearly all of the Left Bank of Bamako and will be extended throughout the city before rolling out to other parts of the country, the company said in a statement published by local media.
