LAGOS: Last year, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) cracked down on mobile phone operators in the country over their poor services, banning them from using promotions to entice new customers. According to the NCC on Monday, this could be coming to an end if the operators are able to meet performance indicators. The ban includes all promotions and lotteries, although some operators have scoffed at the ban and have employed promotions still. Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC Eugene Juwah said that “the regulatory body was already carrying out the measurements to find out which operators met the KPIs in December 2012 and was on the verge of releasing the results." He added that “under the agreement reached with the operators, the commission had given them enough time to repair and make the necessary investments in their networks." He continued to say “the regulatory body and the service providers agreed that the KPI measurements should be carried out for December 2012 services." The regulator was acting after continued complaints against the mobile operators in the country had piled up from users who continue to demand better customer services and support. BN
