SINGAPOR: Singapore and Vietnam are looking to boost defense cooperation between the two countries, government officials said on Tuesday. Vietnam's Deputy Minister of National Defense, Senior Lieutenant-General Nguyen Chi Vinh is co-chairing the fifth Singapore-Vietnam Defense Policy Dialogue (DPD) with Singapore's Permanent Secretary for Defense Chiang Chie Foo. On Tuesday, Senior Lt-Gen Vinh called on Acting Minister for Social and Family Development and Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Defense, Chan Chun Sing. As part of his four-day visit, which ends on Wednesday, Senior Lt-Gen Vinh will also be visiting the Singapore Armed Forces Medical Corps at Nee Soon Camp. The Defense Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that both countries exchanged views on the regional security situation, and discussed bilateral defense exchanges during the defense policy dialogue. The goal is to help breach the ongoing tension over the South China Sea and establish links between the two countries to tackle human trafficking, which has increased dramatically in recent months.
