LAGOS: Tigo Ghana has launched an innovative strategy for its new Tigo Family Care Insurance program by allowing users to register for the initiative without the need for an agent, an effort to boost both the telecom and healthcare industries at one time. By using a short code, users can apply for the new program, which the insurance customers can “obtain up to GHC 2,000 cover by dialing the short code and following the prompts, or they can visit any Tigo Customer Service Center or designated Tigo insurance agent," the company said in a statement announcing the self-registration plan. The Solutions Category Manager at Tigo Ghana, Abdul-Nasser Alidu, said by introducing the self-registration, “Tigo hopes to reach the people who hitherto have had no access to life assurance." The use of telecom for the purpose is a positive step, the company said, which allows those not near an insurance provider or agent to be able to be covered for insurance without having to pay large fees to do so. It is all part of the Ghana government's push to boost online and telecom services for public and governmental projects.
