KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's Prime Minister Nabib Razak said on Sunday that women were vital to the country's development. He argued that global growth can be gauged by the successes of women in access to education and their involvement in the workforce. The PM, who is also the acting Women, Family and Community Development Minister referred to a report published earlier this year by The Economist on female economic opportunities that said women's empowerment and their impact on the workforce has been instrumental in developing nations over the past century. “In fact, women's involvement in the workforce is seen as an economic and business catalyst," he said during a speech at the 50th Women's Day Dinner organized by the National Council of Women's Organization. Razak'ss speech was delivered by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development secretary general, Datuk Noorul Ainur Mohd Nur. In his comments, the PM announced a RM500,000 allocation to the NCWO to enable it to carry out its programs.
