CAIRO: An Israel court ruled that the killing of pro-Palestinian activist Rachel Corrie in the Gaza Strip in March 2003 was an accident and the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) are not responsible. The death caused an international furor after she was run over by an Israeli bulldozer as she attempted to stop house demolishing in the Palestinian territory. Her parents, Cindy and Craig, had filed the civil lawsuit against the Israel government alleging responsibility in their daughter's death. The judge in Haifa argued that the bulldozer driver had not seen the American activist and could not be held responsible. Judge Oded Gershon also argued that Corrie “could have saved herself by moving out of the zone of danger, as any reasonable person would have.” International activists have condemned the ruling, telling Bikyamasr.com that it is yet another “sign of Israel's arrogance and violations of basic human dignity.” Protests have been called by numerous international organizations to be held in front of Israeli embassies across the globe in solidarity with the Corrie family.
