NEW DELHI: India's ministry of commerce, industry and textiles said on Monday that it was looking to raise the issue of a growing trade deficit with China while at the 9th Session of the India-China Joint Economic Group (JEG) meetings. It also said it would push issues concerning market access in the information technology sector as well as enabled services between the two countries. Agriculture and its products will also be discuss, the ministry said in a statement. “Export of pharmaceutical products, diamonds and export of sea food to China are also likely to be discussed. Investment related issues and import of Indian films by China are also likely to come up for discussion,” said the statement. Minister Anand Sharma will be at the head of the Indian delegation for the meeting, which is to look at bilateral relations between the two neighbors. The ministry said China “is likely to bring up ways to strengthen cooperation in trade remedies and service trade.” “The border trade issues between India and China, and modes to improve investment and operation environment for Chinese enterprises in India are also likely to be discussed,” it added. Total trade between India and China for the financial year 2011-12, stood at $75.45 billion as compared to $59 billion during 2010-11, the Bernama news agency reported.
