CAIRO: Egypt's ministry of interior said on Sunday that a protest of some 150 people was dispersed peacefully outside the national power company in Daqahliya on Saturday, in the Delta region north of Cairo. The protesters had gathered in opposition against the conditions of reoccurring power cuts across Egypt that started to reach most homes and establishments in the country with the start of the holy month of Ramadan. The citizens of Bandar Maniyet al-Nasr chanted against the cuts, which the government blames overuse to be behind it. The ministry of electricity and power advised citizens to cut down on their consumption, especially using air conditioners for extended periods of time. Campaigns calling on citizens to stop paying their electricity bills in a protest to the reoccurring cuts have sparked across the country and hundreds of Egyptians have joined the protests. Hospitals have complained about the deadly consequences of power cuts and its devastating effect on the lives of patients.
