KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's Prime Minister Najib Razak was listed in a new report published by Burson-Marsteller as one of the top 25 most connected world leaders on the micro-blogging site Twitter. The report, “Twiplomacy” is the first such report on global leaders and their usage of the Twitter. American President Barack Obama was the most followed global leader on the social media site, while Razak was ranked number two in Asia and 17th across the globe. The report looked at 254 total heads of governments and leading institutions. The report said Razak was the sixth most popular world leader who “tweets properly,” coming in at number 30 out of 254 head of states and government that actually do their own tweeting. The PM began tweeting on September 23, 2008, and today has over 767,000 followers with 2,675 tweets. He follows 81 people. This makes him by far the most popular national leader in Asia on Twitter, per capita (1 in 37) and comfortably in the global top ten. The report also noted that Razak was one of the earliest global leaders to join Twitter. “Malaysia's Prime Minister Najib Razak actively engages with his audience. He tweets personally and engages his half a million followers with quizzes and sweepstakes. “Seventeen percent of his tweets are conversational and include @replies,” said the report which is available on twiplomacy.com. Last May, he hosted a breakfast with his 500,000th and three other Twitter followers. The Twiplomacy report said he immortalized the event with a Twitpic and a YouTube video of his guests.
