KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's mobile and wireless market is set to another boost as electronic payment provider Touch'n Go announced it would be rolling out a new near-field communication phone payment plan to all customers within the next two months. The company, which had been trialling the new concept, believes it has been successful enough to deliver to all customers and users. Touch'n Go CEO Abdul Karim Lassim said the company “has been piloting NFC smartphone apps with mobile operator Maxis and bank CIMB to allow customers to use their mobile devices as a Touch'n Go card,” The Sun Daily reported Monday. Touch'n Go is Malaysia's contactless payment card used for public transport payments in the capital Kuala Lumpur and for highway toll payments in Malaysia's peninsula. It is also accepted as a payment mode at some restaurants, fast food outlets and movie theaters. Not including the investment by Maxis and CIMB, Abdul Karim said the company invested over half a million ringgit (US$156,076) to develop the NFC services. The CEO said it “also plans to offer the service with other telecommunication companies as well after 6 months.”
