CAIRO: An 11-storey building in Alexandria collapsed on Saturday and killed at least 10 people, Egypt's health ministry reported on Sunday. It said it was attempting to remove the debris caused by the building's demise and search for any remaining bodies. “Ten bodies have been found under the rubble of the collapsed building in Alexandria,” the health ministry said in its statement. Five people have been rescued already, and hope remains that others could still be found. The injured are being treated at local hospitals in Egypt's second largest city on the Mediterranean coast. “The bodies have been taken to the Kom el-Dekka morgue in Alexandria,” said Ahmed al-Ansari, head of Egypt's ambulances services, in statement to the official MENA news agency. Buildings' collapsing are not uncommon in Egypt, where regulations and maintenance is lax. Many structures in the country build beyond the safe standards and the government does little to ensure that upkeep on structures is conducted on a regular basis.
