Mumbai: A caterer was arrested, after 148 persons, including the groom himself, had to be hospitalized for excessive vomiting and diarrhea after they dug into food served in a post marriage buffet platter in India's commercial capital Mumbai. Dr S Wadekar, a medical superintendent at Mumbai's Bhabha hospital, said that 13 children were among those hospitalized and that everyone was in stable condition after medication. “148 people who attended the wedding came to us, complaining of vomiting and diarrhea. Of the 45 who were admitted, 13 are children. All of them are stable,” Dr Wadekar said. Speaking to reporters at the hospital, Shafi Sheikh, the groom who had organized the bash, said that he felt responsible for the chaos. “I feel bad that this had to happen because of the food at my wedding,” the embarrassed groom said. The caterer who arranged for the food at the party Yusuf Ali has been arrested by the police for the mass food poisoning at Mumbai's Bandra-Kurla complex area. Health authorities who were called in for the probe said that the food could have been poisoned because it was cooked in an unhygienic ghetto, a mere few feet from a community toilet.
