NEW DELHI: Indian tech guru N R Narayana Murthy has found his way into the Fortune magazines list of ‘12 greatest entrepreneurs of our time'. The list is topped by the venerable founder of Apple Steve Jobs and also has other tech czars and social networking czars such as Microsoft's Bill Gates and Facebook founder Steve Zuckerberg listed in it. Murthy (65), founded the Indian tech firm Infosys with an initial investment of $200 in 1981. Infosys is now a global technology giant and a Fortune 500 company. Murthy, ranked at 10 on the list, is currently the chairman emeritus of the firm and is personally worth a modest $1.2 billion. Fortune magazine has called Murthy a “visionary founder” of Infosys crediting him for building “one of the largest companies in India, helping to transform that economy and put it on the world stage.” “India could compete with the world by taking on the software development work that had long been the province of the West.As one of six co-founders of Infosys and the CEO for 21 years, Murthy helped spark the outsourcing revolution that has brought billions of dollars in wealth into the Indian economy and transformed his country into the world's back office,” the magazine further said.
