STOCKHOLM (dpa): Britain's Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, arrived in Sweden Thursday as part of a week-long visit to Scandinavia marking the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's ascension to the throne. Sweden's Prince Carl Philip welcomed them at Stockholm's Arlanda airport, where he showed them a JAS Gripen jet fighter. Prince Charles squeezed briefly into the cockpit before they went to meet Queen Silvia at the royal palace. Together with the queen and Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt they later visited the Fryshuset youth centre, and saw activities including a basketball game and music performances. The British royals – who are on their first official visit to Sweden – arrived from neighboring Norway. During their stay in Sweden they were to visit an environmental research center, a housing area in central Stockholm, an organic food company as well as the 17th century Vasa warship that sank on her maiden voyage in 1628. It was likely the British royals would meet Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel's month-old baby girl Estelle during their visit, which ends Saturday, Queen Silvia told Aftonbladet newspaper. The final leg of their Scandinavian visit will be in Denmark where they are to stay until March 27.
