SANA'A: Protesters in Change Square the main rallying point of the Revolution in Sana'a the capital complained that violent nightly fights, opposing al-Houthis, a group of Shia rebels advocating a return to the ancestral rule of the Imams and Salafists, Sunni hardliners promoting a traditional practice of Islam were taking place. Sources within al-Islah, Yemen's Islamic faction which the Salafis are a part of told Bikyamasr.com that so far, as many as 50 people had already been injured in the fighting, underscoring the rise in sectarian violence. “The men are fighting with Gambiyyas (a sword-like knife with a curved blade, often carried by Yemenis as part of their traditional attire),” said a protester. Al-Islah accused al-Houthis of provoking its members by setting fire to their tents. Loai al-shami, an al-Houthi youth leader denied the allegations saying that al-Islah was conspiring against his faction with the United States of America, stressing the Sunni group was manipulating information and spreading lies. “Al Islah is executing the conspiracy plotted by America and Saudi Arabia to evacuate Change Square according to the gulf initiative.” Then he added, “we've received trusted information that a meeting was held between the American Ambassador, the Saudi Ambassador, Ali Mohsen and leaders from Al Islah Party to create tensions in the Square and justify its evacuation.” BM ** translated by Awaher Asa'ad ShortURL: http://goo.gl/ZjJKz Tags: Al Houthis, Clashes, Salafi, Sanaa, Yemen Section: International, Latest News, Yemen
