A Cambodian man died and his girlfriend was seriously injured after the man's wife reportedly poured acid over them while they slept, local media reported Monday. The Phnom Penh Post said 42-year-old Sim Yi died late Friday after the attack. His 19-year-old girlfriend was burned over 20 percent of her body. A policeman in the Kampong Cham province said authorities were seeking the man's wife. “We cannot judge yet if the suspect escaped to another province or if she is still hiding somewhere in the district,” Him Sarak said. Similar attacks across Southeast Asia have taken place in recent weeks, and police sources in the region tell Bikyamasr.com that they are hopeful of creating new educational programs to prevent these violent crimes from occurring.
