ISTANBUL (dpa): Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan will fly directly from a nuclear security conference in the South Korean capital Seoul later this month to the Iranian capital Tehran, a spokeswoman for the Turkish Prime Minister's office said on Monday. The spokeswoman confirmed that Erdogan will attend the 2012 Seoul Nuclear Security Summit on March 26-27 and afterwards will fly to Tehran but was unable to confirm the reason for the visit to the Iranian capital. The visit follows an announcement two weeks ago by Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi that Iran is willing to recommence talks with the Western powers over Iran's controversial nuclear program and was planning for the talks to take place in Istanbul. Turkey has long supported the restarting of the dialogue between Tehran and the 5+1 group of Western nations, led by EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton. A spokesman for Turkey's Foreign Ministry said on Monday that no date has been set for the recommencement of nuclear talks with Iran, but that it is most likely they will restart in April. Currently, the Foreign Ministry is engaged in organizing the second meeting of the “Friends of Syria” group of nations looking for a solution to the current crisis in Syria, which is expected to be held later this month, he said.
