SANA'A: As rumors keep flying off in the capital over Yemen President Abdu Rabbo Mansour Hadi's next move regarding the much awaited military restructuring, sources close to the coalition government told Bikyamasr.com that former President Ali Abdullah Saleh's family members were about to get the boot. According to the GCC proposal signed in Riyadh, the Saudi capital, last November, President Saleh agreed that upon his handing out of power to his deputy, a special committee would organize the restructuring of the armed forces, in essence putting an end to the Saleh's clan hegemony over Yemen's armed forces. However, an interview with US ambassador to Yemen, Gerard Feierstein, advanced the possibility that one, the nomination of new military leaders would take longer than estimated, and two, that certain important figures of the military might after all stay on as they were valuable assets in the country's fight against al-Qaeda. Since, Saleh's son and nephew, Ahmed Ali Saleh and Yehia Mohamed Saleh both head the two main units in charge of counter-terrorism, the Americans simply announced to the world that they were prolonging Saleh's rein through his support network. The news was received rather badly by revolutionaries, with many calling for immediate actions against the government. Nevertheless it seems now that President Hadi chose another option, by reassigning Ahmed Saleh, the Head of the Republican Guards and the Special Forces to adviser of the Commander of the Armed Forces for the fight against terrorism. “As for other major military personalities, they will simply get demoted,” said one of Hadi's aides.
