COPENHAGEN (dpa): Four men will stand trial in April over plotting an attack on the Danish newspaper that published controversial caricatures of the Muslim prophet Mohammed, Danish prosecutors said Friday. They were arrested in December 2010 after a joint operation by Danish and Swedish police. One of the four, a Tunisian-born man was extradited in April 2011 from Sweden, while the others were arrested in Denmark. The men had planned an attack on the Jyllands-Posten newspaper, the Director of Public Prosecutions said. The four have denied the charges, Danish broadcaster DR reported. Police found two weapons and ammunition when they seized the three in a Copenhagen apartment that was kept under surveillance. The newspaper in 2005 published 12 cartoons, including one depicting Mohammed with a bomb in his turban. The cartoons outraged many Muslims. The newspaper and cartoonist Kurt Westergaard have been targets of foiled attacks. Two men were earlier this year convicted by a court in neighboring Norway of plotting attacks on Jyllands-Posten and Westergaard.
