LONDON (dpa): An African woman and her partner were Thursday convicted by a court in London of the “horrific” murder of her teenage brother, whom they had accused of practicing witchcraft. Magalie Bamu, 29, and her partner, Eric Bikubi, 28, both originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, were convicted of killing 15-year-old Kristy Bamu in an act of “unspeakable savagery” in their in north London home on Christmas Day, 2010, the Old Bailey Criminal Court heard. Judge David Paget said the case was “so harrowing” that he had ordered the jury of seven women and five men to be exempted from jury service for the rest of their lives. The court heard that Kristy, who was visiting his sister for a Christmas holiday from Paris, was attacked with knives, sticks, metal bars and hammers before being drowned in the bath after he refused to admit to sorcery and witchcraft. After three days of attacks of “unimaginable brutality,” the victim had begged his attackers to die, the court heard. The couple, who denied killing the boy, will be sentenced on Monday.
