Nairobi (dpa) – A Kenyan campaigner has urged men in the East African country to go on hunger strike from Monday in protest against an alleged increase in domestic abuse cases against husbands. Ndiritu Njoka, who runs Maendeleo Ya Wanaume (Development for Men), made his demand on national television on Sunday – although it is not clear how many men are following the call to arms. A study commissioned by Njoka last year claimed that as many as 460,000 men in Central and Nairobi provinces said they had been battered by their wives. However, some critics have dismissed Maendeleo Ya Wanaume as a one-man operation with a misogynist agenda.
