Gunmen kidnap 11 Iranian pilgrims in Syria

Beirut (dpa) – Gunmen have kidnapped 11 Iranian pilgrims in Syria, Syrian state-run television on Wednesday quoted Iranian embassy officials in Damascus as saying.
The abduction comes only days after gunmen kidnapped a group of Iranian pilgrims on a bus to Damascus. Gunmen also seized seven Iranians in the restive city of Homs last month.
Iranian pilgrims frequently visit Shiite Muslim shrines in Syria.
The Syrian opposition has accused Iran of supporting Syria's crackdown on a popular uprising that erupted in March and has since escalated into an armed conflict.
