London (dpa) – England captain John Terry will stand trial on July 9 to face charges he racially abused an opponent, leaving him clear to play in the European championships, if selected. Terry, 31, on Wednesday pleaded not guilty to the charge that he made racist comments towards Queens Park Rangers player Anton Ferdinand in a Premier League match last October. Terry did not attend the day's Westminster Magistrates' Court hearing but was represented by his lawyer. The defender was charged by police after they received a complaint from a member of the public after the match. If he is found guilty, the maximum sentence is 2,500 pounds (around 3,7500 dollars). The European Championships are scheduled to be played from June 8 to July 1 in Poland and Ukraine. BM ShortURL: http://goo.gl/Qg54G Tags: Euro 2012, John Terry, Racism Section: Europe, Football, Sport
