CAIRO: Egypt political leader Ayman Nour was released Tuesday after the general prosecutor questioned him for hours over his alleged involvement in the 6-day street war between police and protesters in Mohamed Mahmoud street in November, which left over 70 protesters dead and thousands injured. Nour is now barred from leaving the country as his name has been added to the “banned from travel” list. The prosecutor accused Nour of inciting people to attack the police and the armed forces as he spread rumors about corruption in the country. Nour denied all charges raised against him saying they are completely false. The prosecutor also summoned female activist and columnist Nawara Negm and sheikh Mazhar Shaheen on Wednesday, who is dubbed the “preacher of the revolution,” over the same charges. The prosecutor will be facing the two with their alleged incitement of crowds to “engage” with security forces. Their interrogation has been postponed until Saturday. Negm is known for her fiery direct statement against the anti-revolutionary powers and the ruling military council over human rights violations they have committed during the past year following the uprising. They arrived to the investigation early Wednesday while a crowd was growing in their support, chanting anti-military slogans.
