CAIRO: Egypt's Tahrir Square protesters have put a 5000 Egyptian pound reward for anyone who leads them to the police officer who was featured in a video shooting protesters in the eye. The officer, identified as Mahmoud Sobhy al-Shenawy, 24, a 2009 graduate from the police academy, was featured in a video that was circulated by online activists and in it he aims a rifle and shoots at protesters, only feet away, hitting one in the eye and then being applauded by the surrounding soldiers. “You did great Basha, you nailed his eye,” said a soldier in the video. The video was shot by a member of the police and was leaked online and raised great anger after thousands had watched it. Large graffiti across the street from the Egyptian museum has a picture of the officer with the caption “wanted.” Police brutality has hit a new record in the last week with attacks on protesters. According to medical sources speaking to Bikyamasr.com, at least 90 people have died and over 3,000, possibly more, wounded. BM
