CAIRO: A number of political groups and activists called for a march on Monday evening in support of civilians undergoing military trials. This comes one day after prominent activist and blogger Alaa Abdel Fattah was summoned on Sunday to the military prosecutors office for investigation concerning his role in the the October 9 Coptic march, where 27 people were killed when the armed forces guarding the building opened fire and ran over protesters who were calling for rights. Fattah refused to be investigated with by the military so he refused to answer their questions, saying that this invastigation is void as he is a “civilian who should be tried by a civilian prosecuter.” He was detained for 15 days for refusing to collaborate. Fattah is being accused of “inciting violence, stealing military weapons and assaulting officers” as well as “vandalizing public property and threatening public order.” The march will start at Talaat Harb square in downtown Cairo at 7 PM and will march to the prison where Fattah is being held on the outskirts of downtown. Activists estimate the number of civilians who have been tried by a military court to reach 12,000 people. BM
