Comedian Russel Brand goes vegan
Published in Bikya Masr on 25 - 10 - 2011

LOS ANGELES: Animal rights activist and comedian Russel Brand announced on Monday that he has gone vegan. The British star said that after watching the documentary “Forks over Knives” he made the switch to remove all animal products from his diet.
“I'm now vegan, goodbye eggs, hello Ellen,” the 36-year-old tweeted, sending out a shout-out to fellow
Russell Brand
vegan and talkshow host, Ellen DeGeneres.
Brand then went on to RT a message that wife Katy Perry sent out: “Me & the Mr. just watched “Forks Over Knives”. You can get it on Netflix!”
The documentary looks into the food we eat and develops ideas on the animal-based diet and processed foods such as meat. It tells the audience that meat is a leading cause of common diseases and ailments, including diabetes and that by reducing and removing animal products from the diet, these diseases can be controlled, if not banished altogether.
“The idea of food as medicine is put to the test. Throughout the film, cameras follow ‘reality patients' who have chronic conditions from heart disease to diabetes,” the documentary's website reads. “Doctors teach these patients how to adopt a whole foods plant-based diet as the primary approach to treat their ailments – while the challenges and triumphs of their journeys are revealed.”
Brand joins a slew of Hollywood stars and leading athletes who have gone vegan.
