Four Asian workers died on Saturday after a gas leak caused a blast at one of Kuwait's largest oil refinery's at Mina al-Ahmadi, national oil executives said. Two workers were injured in the explosion, they were treated at a near by hospital and were later released. The four men worked for a private contractor. Sources inside the refinery said the leak happened during a routine maintenance operation. “What happened was a gas leak at the Gas Liquefaction Unit during maintenance work not an explosion,” Faruq al-Zanky, CEO of national oil conglomerate Kuwait Petroleum Corporation. Fire fighting units and ambulances rushed to the scene and a few fire fighters were reportedly injured while putting out the fire. The oil refinery produces 460,000 barrels a day is located in the southern coast of the United Arab Emirates. BM
