CAIRO: The Egyptian television program, El Tabaa El Ola, announced government plans to sell the famous Tahrir Square to an influential French hotel company yesterday. Ahmed El-Mosalamany from Dream TV made the announcement on the program and claimed that the former President Hosni Mubarak government was worried about large gatherings and protests being broadcasted in central Cairo. According to El-Mosalamany, the French hotel company was in the final process for the sale and completed much of the paperwork, but orders came to cancel the transaction. The Ministry of Finance told BikyaMasr.com that they could not confirm if the Square was for sale. Tahrir Square was made famous worldwide since Egypt's January 25 revolution led to a mass protest against the Mubarak-regime eventually leading to the ousting of President Mubarak. BM
