Officials in Uganda said landslides killed at least 40 people on Monday when their houses were buried under mud. So far 19 bodies have been recovered, according to the minister of disaster preparedness. The landslides followed heavy rain in the Bulambuli district, in eastern Uganda. Red Cross officials said the bodies of 6 children were recovered so far and at least 22 homes are under mud. “There are so many teams working there, including the army, Red Cross and technical teams from the ministries,” said Musa Ecweru, the minister for disaster preparedness. Adding to trouble of the African country, some parts of Uganda was hit by the drought that is putting around 12 million people in the horn of Africa in danger of starvation. A mudslide hit the eastern Mount Elgon region last year and claimed the lives of 350. BM
