CAIRO: According to a statement issued by the Arab Organization for Human Rights (AOHR) on Monday, Israeli troops committed “war crimes” when they fought against the armed elements in the northern part of the southern Israeli city of Eilat. They added that Israel should be held responsible due to the Israeli authorities' refusal to allow Egyptian troops near the border. The Israeli attacks against the Gaza Strip are seen by the AOHR as retaliatory attacks have called such attacks ‘war crimes' that should be condemned. The statement added that such crimes were serious crimes which pose a threat to the peace and security of the region. AOHR has called for an emergency UN Security Council meeting to conduct an international investigation on the Israeli actions committed last week as well as to condemn them. The AOHR was established in 1983 with the aims of protecting human rights in the Arab world according to international standards. Their headquarters are currently based in Cairo however they do hold offices in Algeria, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia and Yemen as well as affiliated groups in the remaining Arab countries.
