CAIRO: Egypt's new Cabinet, announced on Sunday, is expected to be officially sworn in on Thursday after delays resulted from Prime Minister Essam Sharaf's hospitalization after he suffered a bout of exhaustion. “The new ministers in Prime Minister Essam Sharaf's government will be sworn in on Thursday in front of the head of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi,” a military official told the state MENA news agency. Initially, the new Cabinet had been scheduled to be sworn in on Monday, but Sharaf was admitted to a local hospital after he collapsed, suffering from exhaustion. The PM had hoped the new Cabinet would appease demonstrators in Cairo's Tahrir Square and across the country who again took to the streets on July 8 demanding further reforms and speedy trials for former government officials charged with killing protesters during the January revolution. However, the changes have done little to quell the unrest in the country, with protesters saying it “wasn't enough.” They continue their sit-ins across the country, saying they won't leave until further changes are made, most notably to the ministries of interior and justice. “We aren't going anywhere until our demands are met,” said Hossam Bakr, a 25-year-old protester in Alexandria. He told Bikyamasr.com via telephone that the mood is “confident” that they will get their voices heard. “We are here because the government isn't listening. Now they will,” he added. BM
